I Remember Mama is a one-hour multi-media performance created and performed by Canadian actress Julia DeSotto. The production explores the lives of three extraordinary women who have influenced her life: her Estonian mother, her Italian grandmother and her Scottish mother-in-law. DeSotto brings each of these women to life against a backdrop of family photos and musical memories.
Initially the show was created in 2011 at the Toronto Fringe Festival, Lulubelle Productions was established and the show was remounted in 2012 at the Wychwood Barns Theatre. In 2013 I Remember Mama appeared at Tartu College and at the Joseph P. Carrier Gallery in cooperation with the Columbus Centre.
In June 2014 Julia had the honour of performing I Remember Mama in Tallinn, Tartu and Viinistu, Estonia through the generous support of VEMU, Estonian Studies Centre at Tartu College and the Baltic eritage Network. Julia also had a live accompanist from Estonia, Kristal Laas on accordion for all the shows.
Julia has added another dimension to her show about her wonderful experience in Estonia and would like to share this with her Canadian audience in Toronto.
“Sometimes the stories go with them or are forgotten, but I remember Mama. Hold on to them all of you because they are priceless and part of your heart and soul.”
Hope to see you there!
