President Toomas Hendrik Ilves met yesterday with U.S. Undersecretary of State for political affairs Daniel Fried, who is on a visit to Estonia.
At the meeting, the security situation in Europe after the Russian-Georgian war was discussed along with the role of NATO in the changed situation.
“Estonia does not doubt that NATO as an organisation and obligations based on Article 5 will function,” Ilves said.
President Ilves and Undersecretary Fried considered it important to provide vigorous assistance to Georgia that will enable Georgia to become a more democratic and stronger country than it was before Russia’s aggression.
