President Toomas Hendrik Ilves today flew to Germany where he will participate in the reputable European security and foreign policy conference, Wehrkunde, in Munich.
The role of NATO in the 21st century, the Arab Spring, cyber security, the influence of the European financial crisis on security, trans-Atlantic co-operation and the role of the European Union in organising the so-called smart defence, tactical nuclear weapons in Europe, energy security, and the emergence of Asia are the topics that will be discussed at a conference, which will bring together influential security and foreign policy thinkers and experts as well as politicians from Europe and the United States.
The annual Wehrkunde or Munich Security Conference, which has also been characterised as the smithy of Euro-Atlantic security, has been organised since 1962.
