Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Bank of Estonia Jaan Sven Männik will be in Toronto to speak at the National Estonian Foundation of Canada fundraising gala on November 8th, 2008. The event is a closing tribute to the 90th anniversary of the declaration off independence by Estonia.
Männik will speak about the ecconomic challenges facing Estonia in light of the recent global finacial crisis.
Among other topics, Männik will address concerns about the apparent slowdown in the Estonian economy; the investment prognosis for Estonia; Estonian investment in the American banking system; the current state of the country’s energy security and Estonia’s social security net.
Previously to his recent Supervisory Board Chairman appointment this past June, Swedish-born Männik was the Board Chairman for Eesti Telekom from 2000-2007. Among various international postions, he also worked in Toronto for Anglo Traders Ltd as a planning specialist in 1972-1973.
No Foundation gala tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets for the event must be secured in advance by calling the Foundation office ASAP at 416-465-5600.

Typical opposing opinions re the open bar. I took it as a positive !! I don't drink either, and I hate being pressured to buy bar tickets at fund raisers and feel that I am being unsupportive. I doubt that this Gala crowd will leave a trail of drunks.There are more 'viisakaid eestlasi " than not. I am totally looking forward to a beautiful evening!

He is again the right man at the right time to give us insight into how the Global Financial Crisis will affect Eesti (assuming he can figure it out in the intervening days -- and there is no disrespect whatsoever in these words).
