Washington, DC (JBANC) --- The ninth Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc. (JBANC) conference being held in Washington, DC on April 1-2, 2011 will commemorate fifty years of activism for the Baltic cause.

The President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers will be giving the keynote address at the conference on Saturday, April 2. Friday's program will include a congressional briefing and evening discussion and reception.
Main conference themes will center on: 1) retrospective look at accomplishments over the past 50 years, including in the past 20 years since the restoration of Baltic independence;
2) current transatlantic and security issues - energy and cyber security, military and economic concerns;
3) activism and ongoing projects - support for democracy in Belarus; the Stalin statue controversy, etc. The line-up of speakers includes British journalist (The Economist) Edward Lucas, foreign affairs analyst Paul Goble, experts from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and many others.
