Algirdas Rimas Receives Lithuanian Presidential Order
Washington, DC (JBANC) - JBANC Board member Algirdas Rimas was decorated at his home in Reston, Virginia today with the Knight Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas, honoring his active contribution to American-Lithuanian organizations in the United States.
The decree to honor Rimas was signed on October 7 by Valdas Adamkus, President of the Republic of Lithuania. The award was presented by Lithuanian Ambassador Vygaudas Usackas.
Rimas, who joined the JBANC Board in 1997 as a representative of the Lithuanian American Council, has twice served as the organization’s chairman. He has also served as chairman of the Public Affairs Council of the Lithuanian American Community.
The Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas was re-instituted to honor the citizens of Lithuania for outstanding performance in civil and public offices. The Order was instituted in 1928, with the first badges struck after the design of Andrius Lopuchinas.
