AMMAN, JORDAN - Jordan and Estonia's Eesti Energia have signed a $6 billion deal to explore for oil in the country's extensive surface oil shale reserves.
Maher Hijazin, head of Jordan's Natural Resources Authority, said Tuesday the project involves full-scale oil shale extraction in a 30-square-kilometer (12-square-mile) are of the country's central al-Attarat region.
He said a potential daily oil output of 36,000 barrels, or 30 percent of Jordan's daily need, was expected within a decade.
