World famous Latvian violinist, Gidon Kremer, with his ensemble Kremerata Baltica will be performing on April 18, 2007 at George Weston Recital Hall in the Toronto Centre for the Arts, 5040 Yonge Street (tickets available through Ticketmaster, 416-872-1111) on one leg of a ten concert tour through Canada and the US.
Kremer, who, in his 30 year career, has performed on virtually every major concert stage, with the most celebrated orchestras, and with today’s foremost conductors and instrumentalists. He is also highly respected for his unusually vast repertoire, which encompasses the entire standard violin works, as well as music, by 20th century masters.
In 1997 Kremer formed the chamber orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, as a 50th "birthday present to himself", comprised of 27 young musicians from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, to share his experience and his love for "eastern European" compositions.
This concert will include Beethoven's Grosse Fugue in B flat major Op. 113 and Schumann's Cello Concerto in A minor Op. 29 translated for violin. Kremer is the featured soloist in the Three Pieces for Violin and Vibraphone. Kremer will also perform Sempre Primavera.
