Krieger, Saluveer and Kirss to rock Esto House for Thanksgiving
01 Oct 2004 OS
Once again, to the delight of music fans and gourmands alike, Ülle and Tõnis Veltmann have invited top-notch musicians from Estonia to perform in Toronto, combining their invitation with a reason to mark a significant date in our calendars with others in a public Estonian locale.
This year it is Thanskgiving that is being celebrated with a typically Estonian feast, making mere concessions to the North American location by featuring turkey rather than pork at the table. Many are already familiar with Erich Krieger and Tiit Saluveer, who have appeared at Veltmann catered bashes in the past, most recently in November of 2002. Krieger is a two decade plus veteran of the stage, capable of entrancing audiences with his unique styling of Estonian pop chestnuts as well as covering North American favourites. Tõnu Aare of Estonia’s seminal Apelsin folk country-rock band fame was also to take the stage; alas unforeseen circumstances arose preventing a visit this fall. Apelsin fans need not despair, that is not the pits, for Jaan Kirss from that band will be replacing his bandmate on the Estonian House Great Hall Stage.
The Lõikuspühapidu or Thanksgiving party will take place at the Toronto Esto House on October 8th. The afternoon set at 1 pm will also see tasty comestibles served; the feasting on bird and seasonal favourites will be tied in with the evening show, doors open at 7 pm. For further information, and to reserve tables please call 416 565-4876. Don’t miss this chance to say hello to autumn in “august” musical company.
