The Lakewood Estonian Association will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2006. The Board of Directors is planning a large scale celebration together with other active organizations in Lakewood. This would include a gala party, exhibition and a church service.

An abundantly rich program will be organized for Saturday, September 2, 2006, Labor Day weekend. This weekend used to be the time for one of the largest gatherings on the east coast and attracted people from near and far. The weather usually is warm enough to go to the beach during the day and the evenings are mild. This is a perfect combination for this gathering. We are considering inviting from Estonia the Pärnu elite folk dancing group along with a 5-member accordion orchestra. There will be possibilities to pitch tents on our property.

We have established a committee whose responsibility is to publish the LEU 60th anniversary book. Juhan Simonson is the coordinator and the project is divided into 3 sections: the association's history and activities, smaller organization's activities and the history of any family or individual who has been a Lakewood resident or has participated in any of our activities. Each family has the opportunity to purchase a page or two in the book for their story and pictures. The first page will cost $130 and will include a copy of the book, the second page will cost $100. Available also will be half pages at a cost of $60 but this will not include the book. It is up to the family as to whether they want their page to be in English or in Estonian.

Priit Parming and Juhan Simonson are responsible for the Association's history and its presentation. Airi Vaga and Ferdinand Rikka are handling the smaller organization's material. Maie Currie and Peep Saluri are working with the family pages and their contents.

This is an invitation to all past and present participants in any of the Lakewood activities to join us and be a part of the book.
