Latvia’s unpalatable choice

In Latvia, even to talk about devaluing the currency is to risk arrest. But with the Baltic state now urgently needing assistance from the International Monetary Fund, the debate over whether it should abandon the four-year peg to the euro can no longer be avoided. Indeed, the IMF may well insist on it.
