By today's standards 85 is no longer all that remarkable an age - but man of letters Külvet is no longer with us, having passed away in April of 2002.

Fortunately we have his ample creative legacy - his writings as a journalist treating current political and public affairs, as well as numerous travelogues, dramatic works and of course of fiction and belles lettres.

The Tartu College reading theatre groupe ILUTULI will draw on this wealth of material in staging a memorial production. Emphasis will be placed on two significant points:

• as a journalist with Voice of America Külvet helped Estonians in Soviet occupied Estonia preserve their identity; and,

• as playwright and journalist his goal was to warn refugee Estonians (pagulaseestlased) of the risks of losing their identity.

This was no simple task, to not even mention thankless, but fortunately in the case of Külvet the work bore fruitful results.

ILUTULI will present a memorial production in memory of Ilmar Külvet in the Tartu College Hall on December 3, 2005, at 7 PM. Please consider this as your invitation to attend.
