From an early age, Markus has demonstrated capacity for playing several different instruments, but in particular the violin. His formal training began at age four, when he was enrolled in a Suzuki programme under the direction of Clara Schranz.

He also studied for 2 years with Hratch Manoukian prior to being accepted into Violin Performance at the University of Toronto, where he has studied with Scott St. John and currently with Annalee Patipatanakoon. At age 21, Markus is now in his fourth year of University. He has performed extensively both as a soloist and orchestral player (Orchestra Toronto, Celebrity Orchestra).

Markus Medri has also recently taken an interest in and been involved in a series of recording sessions for various artists (Koko, Marshall Dane) under the direction of Toronto producers Chris Hall and Terry Brown. In these sessions, Markus has achieved the sound of a full string section one track at a time through multi track recording. Time will tell what Markus chooses to pursue further as he has many different interests.

He was a soloist at the Republic of Estonia’s 90th Independence Day Festive Concert-Assembly on February 24.

Markus Medri is in recital on March 11 at Walter Hall, U of T Faculty of Music, Edward Johnson Building, 80 Queen’s Park Circle at 5:15 pm. Admission is free, with a reception to follow.
