Media Advisory - TTC showcases Government of Portugal's artwork gift CNW

TORONTO, June 5 /CNW/ - The Government of Portugal will present a tile
wall mural to the City of Toronto at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 7 at Queens Park
Station. The TTC station is the permanent site of the large traditional
blue-and-white tile mural by Portuguese artist Ana Vilela. Secretary of State
for the Portuguese Communities, Dr. Jose Cesario, and City of Toronto
Councillor Mario Silva will unveil the artwork.
The mural, 3 meters high by 5 meters long, is made of ceramic tiles
manufactured by Viuva Lamego in Lisbon. The mural comprises 735 140-mm square
tiles.
A plaque, located on the wall beside the artwork, states that "the
artwork ... of a traditional Portuguese design ... is presented to the City of
Toronto ... in recognition of (the) 50th Anniversary of Portuguese Emigration
to Canada."
Also attending will be Minister of Citizenship and Responsibility for
Seniors Carl DeFaria and Consul-General of Portugal Joao Perestrello.
