Last weekend, the Toronto "Põhjakotka" Viru vanemskaudid and "Põhjarada" vanemgaidid participated together at Kotkajärve to attend a special survival camp designed to introduce the history and tactics of the “Metsavennad” (Forest Brothers) of World War II. The youth were challenged with shelter building and tactical training sessions while having to stay hidden from an invading “enemy force”. The invaders were equipped with a Soviet T-40 tank that was eventually captured by the youth after a vigorous night game of capture the flag. Fun was had by all and there were some very good lessons learned. The theme was very popular and we plan to create a “Metsavennad Part 2” series this spring.
Special thanks go towards the many people that helped plan and execute this camp!
