York Mills athlete a triple threat at Metro Regionals
Poldma wins his second straight title in discus, javelin and shot put
“ When it comes to sports, playing hockey is the first choice for Mihkel Poldma. But the accomplished athlete also has a penchant for discus, shot put and javelin.
The 15-year-old accomplished a rare feat yesterday at the Metro Regional high school track and field finals by winning all three events for the second consecutive year – in a different age category.
Last year, he won in the midget category competing for Windfields Junior High. This time, the Grade 10 student at York Mills Collegiate captured the junior category at the University of Toronto, all with personal best throws.
The 6-foot-2 athlete capped his performance by throwing the javelin 46.86 metres on his fifth of six attempts”.
North Toronto’s Henno Einola place third behind Põldma in the javelin throw, making for two Estonian-Canadian high school athletes of distinction on the podium.
