Musica Divina is presenting a programme titled "Music for the Eve of All Saints" at St. Peter's Estonian Lutheran Church, 817 Mt. Pleasant Road on Sunday, October 31st at 4 PM. Familiar compositions by Mozart and Vivaldi will please the standard lovers; two less frequently performed works by Michael Haydn and Quirino Gasparini are also certain to appeal. No Musica Divina concert would be complete without featuring a composition by conductor and founder Avesson. This concert will see the premiere of his Psalms of Praise (op. 94), a work that pays homage to the tradition of chant while exploring the boundaries of convention with Pärt-like emphasis on chorded seconds, using syncopation to keep both choir and orchestra honest.
While little commercial ghouls and goblins are preparing for the pranks and sweetened excesses of Hallowe'en, prepare yourself for the evening by partaking in this concert, to remind us of the non-material, of the religious values found in Musica Divina's repertoire. Tickets are $15, available from choir members and at the door prior to the performance.
