NATO informational meeting in Atlanta

Washington, DC (JBANC) A meeting on the topic of NATO enlargement is being organized on Friday, September 13 in Atlanta, Georgia, by the Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc. (JBANC) and local Baltic-Americans.

This event, part of a series of meetings designed to focus discussion on the prospects and plans for enlarging NATO, will take place from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, located at 1775 Parkway Place, NW, in Marietta, Georgia. Representatives from Baltic-American organizations and Baltic embassies in Washington, DC are also expected to participate. Anyone with an interest in the issue is warmly welcomed to attend.

Similar NATO enlargement informational meetings have been held in over 25 centers in 21 states over the course of the last two years to discuss the background, developments and future prospects of the NATO enlargement process. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are among seven countries that hope to receive invitations at the NATO Summit in Prague this November.

Invitations to the September 13 event have been sent to members of Georgia's congressional delegation, including Senators Max Cleland (D-GA) and Zell Miller (D-GA), Congressman Saxby Chambliss (R-GA 8), and Rep. Johnny Isakson (R-GA 6), who visited Estonia and Latvia in August as part of an eight member congressional delegation.

Other NATO informational meetings are being planned for Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 12 and Knoxville, Tennessee, on September 14. Please contact JBANC for more details.
