The Honourable Sarmite Bulte, Member of Parliament for Parkdale-High Park has announced that she has accepted Prime Minister Paul Martin's request to serve as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, with special emphasis on Women Entrepreneurs.

She will continue in her role as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, with special emphasis on Canadian Heritage.

"I am very pleased that Sam has accepted these new responsibilities," said Prime Minister Paul Martin, adding," Her vast experience working with women entrepreneurs will be of great benefit to women in business and will encourage and support those who are starting up."

The Latvian-Canadian Bulte will be working closely with the Honourable David L. Emerson, Minister of Labour. In October 2003, Bulte tabled a report and recommendations for the Task Force on Women Entrepreneurs, which she headed.

No doubt the next step will be the mantle of a minister.
