NOTICE FROM ST. PETER'S ESTONIAN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH OF TORONTO CONGREGATIONAL COUNCIL

The Congregational Council of St. Peter's Church has consulted with the ELCIC (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada) synod to clarify the qualifications for membership in its congregation.

Our church’s constitution and bylaws provide that individuals over the age of 18 who have been baptized and confirmed in St. Peter's or who have been baptized and confirmed in another Lutheran church and have officially transferred their membership from that congregation to St. Peter's are considered voting members of St. Peter's congregation.

A voting member could stand to lose the right to membership if the member does not take Holy Communion and support and participate in the life and worship of the St. Peter’s congregation for a period of one year. Such members will be put on a Responsibility List.

The thorough discussions and combined effort of the Council and synod clarified that, as is the case in many congregations, our church needs to take steps to update its membership roster. Accordingly, the Council has recently sent letters to those members who have not fulfilled both of the obligations described above (i.e. made a donation and taken communion over the past year).

EELK Toronto Peetri koguduse juhatus on konsulteerinud ELCIC (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada) sinodiga, et selgitada koguduse liikmeks olemise kvalifikatsioone.

Koguduse põhikirja kohaselt on iga täiskasvanud inimene, kes on Toronto Peetri koguduses ristitud ja leeritatud või on mõnes teises luterlikus koguduses ristitud ja leeritatud ja on ametlikult üle tulnud EELK Toronto Peetri kogudusse, meie koguduse täisõiguslik liige.

Täisõiguslik liige võib oma õigused kaotada, kui ta ei ole ühe aasta jooksul armulauda vastu võtnud ja koguduse elus osalenud ega seda toetanud. Sel juhul kantakse tema nimi Meeldetuletuse nimekirja (Responsibility List).

Juhatuse ja sinodi vaheliste põhjalike konsultatsioonide ja koostöö käigus selgus, et nii nagu paljudel teistel kogudustel, nii ka meie kogudusel tuleb koostada korrektne koguduse liikmete nimekiri. Juhatus saatis hiljuti kirja nendele liikmetele, kes viimase aasta jooksul ei ole mõlemad ülalnimetatud kohustust täitnud (st. armulauda vastu võtnud ja kogudusele annetanud).
