Dear Friend of the New York Estonian House!
Juta Kurman, at her recent 99th birthday celebration, said:
“Thank God for the New York Estonian House, where we have been able to freely carry on our Estonian traditions in New York for over 50 years. The Estonian House has been like a second home to me, and we need to do whatever is necessary to assure its survival.”
You may have personal memories about “growing up” in the NY Estonian House with Estonian School , Scouting, choruses, or simply because your parents “dragged you to Eesti Maja”.
You may have more recent memories about NY Eesti Maja being a place you can call “home” after leaving Estonia to start a new life in the US .
Whatever the reasons, whatever your connection with the NY Estonian House –
We need your help!
The NY Estonian House has been the center of Estonian activity in New York since 1946. Although we derive income from membership dues, rentals and other sources, we nevertheless rely on voluntary donations and bequests as a major source of revenue, in order to keep our doors open every year.
Eesti Maja is a historic and beautiful Beaux Arts building that all of us can be proud of and that generations of Estonian-Americans have cherished and lovingly cared for. Your tax-deductible gift today will be used to help ensure that the NY Estonian House will remain a vibrant place where Estonian culture can be shared and celebrated for generations to come.
Realizing that the Christmas season has inundated you with countless appeals for help, we nevertheless ask you at this start of the New Year to consider that the NY Estonian House is worthy of your support. We need your help to continue to be the “shining Estonian star” on 34th Street in New York City .
Thanking you in advance,
Sincerely,
Toomas M. Sõrra, M.D.
President – and NYEES Board of Directors
