(RFE/RL) -- The Obama administration is to unveil a new nuclear security policy that seeks to reduce the number of situations in which the United States would use nuclear weapons.

At the same time, U.S. officials say Washington wants to preserve the assurances of nuclear protection that it offers for its allies.

The policy document, called the "Nuclear Posture Review," is being released today after a year of discussions with the Pentagon, as well as consultations with allied governments.
