TORONTO, Feb. 4 /CNW/ - Ontarians in Kingston and Thunder Bay are encouraged to register for the first in a series of upcoming Budget Town Halls by calling a toll-free number.
"The strength and diversity of our people make Ontario the best province in the finest country in the world," Premier Dalton McGuinty said.
"There is no opportunity we cannot seize, no challenge we cannot overcome, if we work together. The $5.6 billion deficit we have inherited from the previous government is a challenge, but it also represents an opportunity for us to take a close look at everything we do, to ensure we are truly focused on Ontarians' priorities," he said.
"We need your ideas, we need your advice on how to best deliver the best public schools, the best health care, and safe, clean and livable communities, while living within our means."
The Premier will formally launch Delivering Change: Budget Town Hall 2004 next week when he sits down with Ontarians from all walks of life at a special meeting at Queen's Park.
In the meantime, Ontarians can register for the first two Town Halls - in Kingston on Monday, February 9, and Thunder Bay on Tuesday, February 10, - by calling 1-866-608-4824.
More details on the sweeping dialogue with Ontarians - including the dates and locations of other town halls - will be released shortly.
The dialogue with Ontarians builds on the success of the Ontario Public Service Ideas Campaign. The Premier asked front-line provincial public servants for their best ideas on how to improve public services, while living
within our means. More than 11,000 contributions poured in over six weeks. It was the first consultation of its kind in Ontario history.
