OTTAWA – York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan has been appointed to the central campaign team of the Conservative Party by Leader Stephen Harper.
“Peter Van Loan is a first-rate political strategist and organizer. I am pleased he will be applying these skills as a key member of my campaign team, for the next election”, stated Mr. Harper.
Mr. Van Loan brings a wealth of talent to the role, with over 30 years experience in the political field. He has performed nearly every role possible in countless campaigns, from stuffing envelopes, pounding in signs, and managing campaigns to being elected last June as the Member of Parliament for York-Simcoe (Jõekääru).
Mr. Van Loan is the former President of the Ontario P.C. Party and former President of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. He and has written many campaign reference manuals and conducted election readiness seminars for Party members across Canada.
“I welcome this exciting opportunity to help prepare the Conservative Party for victory in the next election. I look forward to working with Conservatives from coast to coast as we elect a government committed to delivering real tax relief for families,” Mr. Van Loan said.
Van Loan’s appointment is another boost for the influence of York-Simcoe in the Conservative Party.
Van Loan’s campaign manager, Richard Ciano, was elected to the Party’s national executive the weekend of March 19-20 in Montréal.

In a related item, CBC Newsworld host Don Newman suggested to Stephen Harper during an interview after the Conservative Convention in Montréal that an election must be near, judging by the fact that a politican of Van Loan’s competence and backroom experience has been named to the campaign team. The question indicated the degree of respect with which Ottawa insiders regard Van Loan.
