On May 12, 2012, from10-4, the Estonian Embassy in Washington, DC opened its doors to people from all over the world to view the medieval structure; watch a video of a "Song Festival"; observe a collection of various traditional items made in Estonia; observe a colorfully dressed Estonian in national dress spinning wool on a spinning wheel as in ancient times; pickup literature on Estonia: facts, geography, and festival; and get an Estonian "stamp" in their "passport of all the embassies they have visited". Meanwhile, the Washington, DC Metro Area Estonian Folk Dancing Group Pillerkaar, led by Anu Oinas, performed a series of traditional dances in full Estonian national dress. Especially exiting was to have guest after guest ask to have their picture taken with the folk dancing group participants! This inspiring event attracted over 10,000 people to the DC area embassies.
