Eesti keeles siin Dear friend of Scouting! Estonian scouting in Canada is seeing exceptional growth. Toronto's newest Estonian scout troop, Põhjakotka, brings a world of adventure, outdoor experience, brotherhood and fun to youth of Estonian heritage. Established in 2015 following the merger of the Kalev and Lembitu troops, we are building on the honoured 60+ year old traditions of our predecessors.
Kotkajärve is the beloved treasure of Estonian scouting and guiding in Canada. Our 400 acre campground near Huntsville has provided our youth with year round opportunities for outdoor adventure and challenge for 65 years. Our camp infrastructure is aging and we find ourselves with inadequate facilities.
The current "Suur Tare" cabin at Lembitu küla has reached the end of its useful life. The Põhjakotka troop is proposing to replace the existing structure with a new, two storey building.
The new "Põhjakotka Tare" cabin will provide enlarged kitchen facilities to comfortably acccomodate group meals during weekend camps, as well as an open living area for eating and other indoor activities on the second floor. The first floor will feature expanded sauna and washing facilities to handle growing troop requirements, as well as several additional bedspaces.
The anticipated total cost of this project is
$130,000. A construction start date of April 2019 is targeted. A combination of volunteer and paid labour will be needed to achieve reasonable construction timeline.
We are now turning towards individuals, companies and organizations for sponsorship donations to help us realize this goal. Only with the support of our community can we continue providing life‐changing experiences to youth and ensure that Kotkajärve remains the jewel of Estonian scouting in Toronto.
With the Estonian kindergarten (lasteaed) bursting at the seams, we are optimistic about the future of Estonian scouting in Toronto for years to come.
Major donors will be honoured on a donor plaque mounted in the new building. Individuals and organizations donating more than $200 will be recognized. Our most significant benefactors will have their names/logos featured at the top of the plaque.
Every gift will help turn the vision into reality and we thank you kindly for your generous support.
Sincerely,
The youth and leaders of Põhjakotka
