OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today launched the 27th annual Christmas Lights Across Canada program during a ceremony on Parliament Hill:
“Every year, Parliament Hill is adorned with a stunning display of lights, heralding the beginning of the holiday season,” said the Prime Minister. “This wonderful time of year gives us the opportunity to reflect on how fortunate we are, and to reach out to those around us who are in need of a helping hand.”
The Christmas Lights Across Canada program is an annual tradition that sees wintery capital cities brightened with thousands of holiday lights. In Ottawa-Gatineau, more than 300,000 multicoloured lights will illuminate prominent landmarks along Confederation Boulevard , including Parliament Hill. The lights will be on display until January 7, 2012.
“I encourage Canadians and visitors alike to come out with friends and family to see the impressive displays of lights across the country.”
