As the American and Estonian economies become increasingly knowledge-based, protecting the intellectual property of our engineers, programmers, artists, musicians, writers and others will become ever more important.
Thomas Dougherty, Trial Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section, is visiting Tallinn March 13 – 17 to share the American experience in protecting intellectual property rights. He gave lectures at Tallinn University’s Law Institute and at the University of Tartu’s Faculty of Law.
Dougherty also spoke with Estonian prosecutors, police and judges to share experiences and boost ties for future cooperation. Dougherty pointed out that intellectual property crime is increasingly becoming part of cyber crime, and so law enforcement will be pressed to work more frequently across borders.
His visit to Tallinn is a strong step in that direction.
