This is the sort of good quality response we Estonians can usually expect from Laud. The everyday references to an adventurous and misguided anti-Semitism can be witnessed through reader's comments to Delfi and daily tabloids. Butit is true that on an official level there is not much around that smells of the sort of gung-ho extremist skinhead oriented racism that is thriving in Russia today. Let's hope that our friends in Europe understand where Russia is coming from, because there is no doubt that van der Linden has business interests in Russia, and ENPA is overtly more friendly towards Russia than in previous years. Margelov is expected to take over the post of President of ENPA in the foreseeable future, which could mean some tough arguing in the corridors of Strasbourg, especially if Russia throws in some discussion on bias in the Baltic. If the aforementioned problem of business interests in Russia is not to extend to the EU, then every effort should be made to limit bilateral economic ties between Russia and the EU, as well as individual ministers. They could start a list with Gerhard Shroeder at the top and continue from there....

In a move that brought the feud between Russian tycoons Arkady Gaydamak and Lev Leviev to a new high, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, an associate of Gaydamak, and not Rabbi Berel Lazar, who is close to Leviev, to a meeting with representatives of the European Jewish Congress at the Kremlin on Wendnesday.

However, the Jewish community in Russia believes that Lazar was passed over because he did not do a good enough job improving Russia's image in the eyes of the United States Congress and American Jewish communities, failing to portray Russia as a nation that is not anti-Semitic.
