The newly elected Secretary General of NATO, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, traces his ancestry to Estonia. Õhtuleht reported during his 2002 visit to Estonia that Fogh told his hosts his great-grandfather had been a timber businessman near Tartu in the 19th century who emigrated with his family to Denmark in the 1890’s. Estonian roots are everywhere.
Rasmussen assumes the NATO SecGen position on August 1st of this year.
