Estonian government has decided to issue work and temporary residence permits to Russian and Belarusian refugees in Estonia based on humanitarian grounds.

New regulations will enable Russian and Belarusian journalists accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be issued with work permits.

This exception will extend to Belarusian citizens to whom the Police and Border Guard Board has issued long-term visas for working in the ICT sector.

Visas will be issued to Russian and Belarusian citizens on humanitarian grounds in the event that returning to their home country would place their life and health in danger.

In April, Estonian government stopped issuing work visas and residence permits to Russians and Belarusians.

Minister of the Interior Kristian Jaani (Center) said in April that the sanction aims to remove the discrepancy wherein international and national sanctions have been imposed on the Russian economy, while states still issue citizens of Russia and Belarus residential and work-related residence permits. "We need to decisively limit the possibilities of the citizens of these two countries to arrive and settle in Estonia," the minister said.

What are they thinking ? For Estonia , (with a population of a mere 1.3 million),that can be so easily diluted by Russians alone and, taking into account not only history but, current events in Ukraine , I would expect no immigration, temporary/permanent from Russia, to be allowed ever. No wonder history repeats itself.
