Martin Ahermaa descended on our office with promo material for “Just a night out”, a musical showcase at Alice Fazooli’s! on January 14th featuring four different acts whose common denominator is musicians of Estonian heritage. Ahermaa is the opening act, and we asked him: “who are you and why Brazilian and jazz?”

MA: “Since childhood I've been immersed in music of one kind or another: from formal studies in piano and string bass, then I picked up bass guitar and guitar on the fly, while playing in various bands in high school and university. I was also in the “Külapoisid” during its heyday.

My true musical awakening happened when the Beatles and the other British bands appeared, but I was attentive to the seductive charms of bossa nova and the samba, especially the works of A.C. Jobim and the Brazilian guitar virtuosos and composers, Baden Powell and Luis Bonfa. As they say in Bahia, "samba is life" or "So danca samba, vai, vai, vai..."

[roughly = I dance only the samba, go, go, go].
