Who are Tale Wind, the third act performing at “Just a Night Out”, a musical showcase at Alice Fazooli’s! on January 14th? We turned to Raoul Langvee for illumination.

This relatively new band is made up of Diane Russell on vocals, Peeter Kopvillem on lead guitar, Ray Mang on bass and Raoul Langvee playing drums.

“Peeter and I have known each other for a long time, dating back to our school days in Montréal” said Raoul. “It is a pleasure to play with such a talented musician. Our band started as a simple fun project, where we could get together a few times a month, and let loose,” Raoul added. Peeter plays in a few other bands, among them Baltic Avenue, and along with his guitar playing, adds vocals and song writing ability. Peeter has also toured Estonia with his band.

Ray Mang, who currently plays more lead guitar than bass, has rediscovered his “bass roots” and is a strong addition to the band. He provides some backup vocals, and seems to know the words to every song ever written. Ray is also originally from Montréal.

Diane Russell is the latest addition to the group, and brings a powerful vocal presence to the mix. She specializes in covering Janis Joplin songs, and that is no small feat as not many vocalists dare to go there. Diane has won a number of vocal competitions and is a great addition to the band. She is learning new styles, and has taken a liking to the blues.

Raoul Langvee has been pounding the skins for a number of years. “I took a few years off, after moving to Toronto from Montréal.” While in Montréal, he played with a number of bands, namely Expression, which had a strong core of Estonian musicians. “The last year has been quite incredible – I guess I have un-retired” said Raoul. He plays with Tale Wind, and also another local band called the Jars. He is also the drummer for the “Puus Brothers”, as the only non-American in this US based Estonian band. They will be playing in California this spring, at China Peaks for the West Coast Estonian Ski Days. “My highlight with the Puus Brothers was playing in Latvia and Estonia 2 summers ago. Playing a live venue in Tallinn was an incredible experience.” He also played with the Es-tones, an impromptu project, last summer at the West Coast Estonian festival, and it went so well that he invited the band back out east to play at a summer festival at Lake Simcoe.

The music of Tale Wind definitely has a blues/rock feel to it. There are some classic covers, and also some of their interpretations of songs that everyone will know. They are looking forward to the 14th, and hope that everyone enjoys the diverse musical line up that evening.

Alice Fazooli’s! is at 294 Adelaide St. West, Tale Wind takes the stage at 10 PM.
