TORONTO, May 12 /CNW/ - The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) today announced
plans to resume Obstetric Services at its Grace Division beginning Tuesday
May 13th, 2003, in compliance with Toronto Public Health requirements and the
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care provincial directives.
"This is a symbolic step on the road to bringing back our hospital to
the community," said Judy Wright, Patient Care Director, Maternal Newborn and
Childcare. "Our Maternal Newborn and Childcare Program is a vital part of the
Grace Division, and we're pleased to have it back."
As a result of the suspension of services at The Scarborough Hospital,
Grace Division, on March 25th, obstetric services moved to the General
Division. "This is just another example of great teamwork shown by our staff.
Women that were scheduled to deliver babies at the Grace Division could go to
and still be seen by their physicians at the General Division," said Wright.
"We moved the entire program; physicians, nurses, equipment, even housekeeping
staff to the General Division. It was challenging -- but through careful
planning and collaboration -- it worked."
The Scarborough Hospital, Grace Division has already resumed some
outpatient clinics (chemotherapy, cardiac, CT scan, X-ray and mammography),
urgent diagnostic imaging and outpatient surgery. The Emergency Department
remains closed. The hospital is still operating under strict provincial
directives and visitor restrictions remain in effect.
"The hospital's approach to resuming services is based on continued
compliance with best practices in infection control, our ability to support
the healthcare system's need for SARS isolation units and available staff
resources," said Wright. "And we want to assure the community that we are
committed to meeting your health care needs."
