A new film on the nonviolent defiance of Soviet occupation
by the Estonian people and the remarkable events which led to their independence

at the Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany

This film at least doesn't have the sop and sentimentality that goes with this kind of thing. Too many nostalgic memories are based on the heroic act of being able to avoid numerous militias desperate to have you in handcuffs, but you won't give in until you've stood your ground and sang Mu Isamaa on Minu arm. After that they can flush you which way and that. There were times when nationalism hung on some pretty bare threads indeed.
