Toronto Eesti Selts pidas kolmandal oktoobril oma aastapeakoosolekku Toronto
Eesti Majas. TES organiseerib iga-aastaseid üritusi, nagu Eesti
vabariigi aastapäeva pühitsemist ja palju teisi. Äsja toimunud edukas
EV100 pidustus Toronto raekoja platsil ja järgnevalt Sheraton Centre’is
kinnitab, et TES on igati tegutsemisvõimeline Toronto eestlaste
organisatsioon. Tuleva aastal 24. veebruaril kavatsetakse EV101
tähistamist mis toimuks Toronto raekoja platsil ja Toronto Eesti Majas.
TES on ka abi pakkunud ja osaleb ESTO 2019 suurüritusel.
“Noored” olid selle aastase koosoleku peateema. TES on 60 aastat olnud
alustugi Toronto Eesti Koolidele, aidates õppekavaga lasteaiast kuni
gümnaasiumini ja ka täiskasvanute programmides. Koosolekul oli esitatud
raportid kooli juhataja Monika Roose-Kolga poolt lasteaia ja kooli
tegevusest ja ka koolikomitee esinaise Linda Soolepa poolt üldise kooli
hetkeseisundist ja uute initsiatiividest aastal 2018. Koosolekul ka
diskuteeriti tuleviku kunstilisi, kirjanduslikke ja kultuurseid sündmusi
mis võiks võluda rohkem Kanada Eesti noorte osavõttu. Et seda teemat
edasi arendada, kavatseb TES luua Toronto Eesti Noorte Seltsi (TENS) mis
koosneks viiest noorest komitee liikmest kelle mandaat oleks
organiseerida rohkem üritusi suurema noorte osalesimesega. Fookus oleks
25 ja noorematele programm arendatud noorte poolt.
TES esinaisena jääb edasi Anne-Liis Keelmann, juhatuse liikmetena Anne
Orunuk, Elle Rosenberg (laekur), Epp Aruja ja Piret Komi (sekretär). TES
juhatus tänas lahkuvat liiget Ülo Isbergi aastate jooksul seltsi tegevuse laiendamise ja tugevdamise
eest. Juhatus võttis vastu uusi liikmeid, Markus Alliksaar (abi-esimees)
ja Allan Meiusi. TES revisjonikomitee liikmed on Helle Arro, Tõnis Toomver ja Kadri Kald. Seltsi liikmemaks
jääb endiseks $10 aastas.
TES loodab näha kõiki meie ühiskonna liikmeid ja sõpru rahvajõulupuul
detsembris.
On October 3th the Toronto Estonian Society (TES) held its annual
general meeting at the Estonia House. Among other things, TES organizes
annual events such as the Estonian Independence Day celebrations and
other cultural events. Coming off the very successful EV 100
celebrations at Nathan Philips Square and the Sheraton Center, during
the next 12 to 18 months TES will be busy organizing EV 101 to be held
on Sunday, February 24th at Toronto City Hall and Estonian House. TES
will also be lending a hand and participating in ESTO 2019 festivities.
“Youth” was a major focus for this year’s TES agenda. For 6 decades TES
has also been the supporting organization behind the Toronto Estonian
School, assisting with program development from kindergarten through to
adult learning. The meeting heard reports from school principal Monika
Roose-Kolga regarding kindergarten and grade school programs as well as
from school Chair Linda Soolepp about the health of Estonian school,
attendance and new initiatives undertaken in 2018. The meeting also
discussed matters related to future artistic, literary and cultural
events that could encourage greater participation by Estonian-Canadian
youth. TES announced the creation of TENS – Toronto Eesti Noorte Selts
or the Toronto Estonian Next-Generation Society. Starting with a
committee of 5 members, TENS’ mandate will be to help bring
Estonian-Canadian youth together in greater numbers with greater
frequency. Programs and events will be developed for youth by youth with
a focus on those 25 and younger.
Returning to TES leadership for another term is Chair Anne-Liis
Keelmann, Anne Orunuk, Elle Rosenberg (Treasurer), Epp Aruja, and Piret
Komi (Secretary). The board thanked outgoing director Ulo Isberg for
his years of service strengthening TES’ outreach to the community. TES
also introduced its new directors Markus Alliksaar (Vice-Chair) and
Allan Meiusi. TES’ audit committee members will be Helle Arro, Tõnis
Toomver and Kadri Kald. TES’ membership fees will remain the same at $10
per year.
TES looks forward to seeing everyone in the community visit its table at
the annual Rahvajõulupuu in December.
