As our community is aware, the Estonian House in Toronto has been struggling financially. We have reviewed our operations and we are announcing that the Board of Directors has decided that it will no longer be supporting the operations of eStore and the store will close effective immediately.

This difficult decision was made by the Board after much consideration. The Estonian House assumed operations of the eStore in 2012 and over that time it has generated a total net revenue of $2,200 while costing tens of thousands of dollars in forgone rental revenues. In 2017, sales reached new lows and were 83% below their 2014 peak.

Without any prospect of a change in the financial performance and the upcoming disruption to our operations by the closing of the grand hall and restricted access to the parking lot due the roof repair, and then further followed by the slower summer season, the Board decided that the time to end the operations of the eStore is now. The use of the space will be reviewed.

The Estonian House thanks Ingrid Sepp Jaenes for her efforts in trying to make a success of the eStore, putting in long hours and trying creative ways to make the store financially viable.

Further updates will be provided regarding disbursement of the existing inventory and plans for the space as this information is confirmed.

Nagu on laialt teada, Toronto Eesti Majal on olnud aastaid rahalised raskused. Me oleme oma operatsioone läbi vaatanud ja oleme otsustanud, et Eesti Maja ei suuda jätkuvalt toetada eStore-i ning on tarvis selle sulgeda.

See otsus on olnud raske ja me oleme selle otsuse vastu võtnud pärast pikemat kaalumist. EStore on pakkunud meie ühiskonnale võimalusi osta raamatuid, ehteid, kinke ja muid eestipäraseid materjale, kuid üle aja ühiskonna toetus ja regulaarne kasutus on langenud.
Eesti Maja võttis üle eStore-i aastal 2012 ja sellest ajast saadik poe puhaskasum on olnud $2,200 - mis on palju vähem kui need kümned tuhanded dollarid mida oleks teenitud selle ruumi valja üürimisest. Aastal 2017, müügikäive oli 83% väiksem kui aastal 2014.

Saades aru et poe finantstulemused tõenaoliselt ei muutu paremaks tulevikus, eriti eeloleva Eesti Maja katuse parandamise ajal ja eeldatavalt aeglasemal suveperioodil, juhatus on jõudnud järelduseni, et praegu on õige aeg selle otsuse vastu võtta.

Eesti Maja tänab siiralt Ingrid Sepp Jaenest, kes on endast kõigi andnud viimastel aastatel üritades teha eStore-i majanduslikult elujõuliseks, nähes palju vaeva ja veetes palju tunde otsides loovaid lahendusi selle nimel.

Edaspidiselt Eesti Maja juhatus kaalub erinaveid variante selle ruumi kasutamiseks ning olemasoleva inventariga tegelemiseks.

Present EH board: pls let Ingrid Tanner in to beef up rentals by letting her in as a board member with equal standing to board meetings. Board, stop playing petty politics. You are squandering the present EH as a resource of the community.

As for the Koffik...
It can be rented out for smaller events.. and Ulle is still the preferred caterer at the Estonian House. And from my experience... she sets up a table in the hallway were we all eagerly purchase food from her. She is really better off in the hallway since her overhead is less.

I just checked that the coffee shop is NOT being marked as rentable space. Thus, it might be under used... but the possiblity is there.

There is finally nicer photos.. but the ad is stagnant... no changes in ads means lower down the line in terms of google searches... static ads are not effective.

Robust updates and tips will keep the ad at the top of the list if anyone is interested

Well, if there are willing applicants ready to take on the challenge to run the kohvik space, why not take them on? If rent is willing to be paid, how is this a problem to the EH? The question still stands, why not allow the space to generate income?

As to the store, the loss of potential income was brought forward. But there is no new tenant in place, so why shut it down?

These actions sure don't look like an effort to attract renters or support community activities.
Self fulfilling prophecy comes to mind.
