If the scouting/guiding community and other stakeholders believe that Kotkajärve will continue to serve a role beyond a 5 – 10 year horizon, then the operating and financing model must change. Please help us develop a long term plan by offering your opinion and joining us at a brainstorming session, open to all, on November 7, 2009, at 10:30AM in the Scout-Guide Room (above the Credit Union) on the third floor of the Toronto Estonian House, 958 Broadview Ave.
What is the future of Kotkajärve? (2)

The Toronto Estonian Scouting Sponsors Association (Toronto Eesti Skaudisõprade Selts - TESS) is seeking input and ideas from various stakeholders to help formulate a long term plan which addresses the sustainability of the Kotkajärve property. The current operating and financial model is not sustainable.

Let's roll up our sleeves and get the work done. This is not rocket science. Strong and dedicated leadership must be in place to create a sustainable model and get the capital project under way that has been underway for years, and years and years.Time to take the bull by the horns and run with a viable vision for the future...
Note: someone should be taking notes at Devine Lake next door. They have rental units, internet connection, operate for events...they have a semi-primitive set up not too far off from us. We could take elements from their model and incorporate as we need! Obviously we must remain true to our ethnic existence, but there must be a workable model that we could be happy with!
I have heard people dreaming about having rental units on the property, there is even a fairly well thought out plan floating around out there...we just need people to act, to get the ball rolling.

Periodic reassessment, combined with long-term planning, should be a feature of all of our community's organisation's. It's the only practical way to adapt to changing circumstances.
God bless all involved.
