Wookey, Sillaots place second in municipal elections

"This was just a practice, next time we are going again and the we will win," said a determined Simon Wookey as he entered the party at the Abbey Bar and Grill. Wookey came second in the race for Toronto Council (Davenport) with 2,089 votes to incumbent Adam Giambrone who had 6,025. The other four trailed even further.

Giambrone tried several times before he finally won election so Wookey didn't need to feel bad.
Though this was not the victory party that it was supposed to be, it sure seemed like one. Everybody was upbeat and looked like they had a good time and were satisfied with the team effort and what they had done. "I am proud of Simon," said his mother, Kersti (Lepik) Wookey.
Next year the winner Adam Giambrone may be running in the provincial election as an NDP candidate, throwing the ward open to a by-election. At that point Wookey will run again municipally, unless one of the mainstream parties will grab him and he will run either provincially or federally.
Though Simon looks at home speaking with a constituent about municipal issues he would be equally at home at Queen's Park or Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
John Sillaots had an entirely different type of campaign for councillor in Uxbridge, where he also came second. The numbers were different — Sillaots received 337 against the winner's total of 446 votes. "The Uxbridge paper endorsed the person who won, which probably tipped the scales," said Sillaots, adding, "the people at the paper don't even live in Uxbridge."
"I'm running again. I already have been asked to sit on several committees," said Sillaots.
