20I have been following this for the most part from the beginning and I cannot see how this is going to be anything but a positive. The estonian community is dwindling and do you expect seniors to go downtown to do their banking, never mind the fact that there is no parking. Come on people wake up! This is going to be nothing but a failure. There are so many memories for myself of the Estonian House: Eesti Kool, Rahvatants, Caravan, family weddings, piano recitals with my piano teacher, just to name a few. I hate to say it but once the new centre is ready to welcome everyone, I certainly will not be there, in fact I am going to close my credit union accounts early next year and then just sit back and watch the new centre grow into a money pit - little to no activity, little to no people - am I right?

63Now please stop harassing the volunteers with threats of lawsuits. You can't unsell the building. I don't understand what the endgame of lawsuits would be. You will sadly not get 958 Broadview back. Still you will have your memories.

60The conclusion of the sales transaction is great news. There have been many frustrated deals, since the inception of this process. Now we are there. I as a child of the "boat people" circa 1950 welcome this next stage. Our parents struggled as new Canadians and secured a home for their community on Broadview. The shares of the Estonian House were often acquired on an instalment basis, as finances were tight. My now deceased parents would be proud to see us to better - to move on to a new facility. What is important is the survival of our community. I am surprised by the naysayers in our community. I am a glass half-full rather than a glass half-empty type. Let's build rather than destroy. Our community is small. Let's collectively welcome this HUGE step forward. I am excited. Until Covid, I visited the EH house frequently. I will have fond memories of it, but am keen to move on. Kudos to the team working on this initiative!

57Väga kahju ja kurb uudis... As someone of the younger generation, millennial if you will, I am so saddened for the future of this community. Congratulations the the board of the new Estonian Centre, you have officially torn a part the community that I have grown up to have as one of the most important, special parts of my life. Well done, I hope you are all proud. :(

19I, too, am of the younger generation. I, however, do not see change as something to run away from. As stubborn and traditionalist as we Estonians can be, we are all capable of adapting. The Eesti Maja is a place where we spent our childhoods and of which we have fond memories. I will be sad to see it go. But I’m also a realist. I think we are all well aware that the Eesti Maja is falling apart. But it isn’t the walls of Eesti Maja that teach Eesti Kool or the ceilings that do rahvatants or the old pipes that sing in meeskoor. These are people. Our ability to speak eesti keel or go to lasteaed is not tied to the building.
I’m saddened, too, but I’m saddened by the small collection of people who so adamantly refuse to participate in eesti ühiskond anywhere other than at 958 Broadview that they would give up their cultural community if it’s anywhere outside of the crumbling walls of a building with which they’re familiar. The same people who will leave Eesti Maja kicking and screaming and raking their nails into the walls in an effort to hold onto the brick and mortar, not realizing that their nails are what’s really tearing the hole in our community.

53Sigh... If only these high, almighty people could understand that a full adult can understand the topic of responsibility. No need to drag someone down and assume they have no responsibilities simply because they are younger.
